Regina King: Black Women Need to Start Swirling It Up

Every single one of my girlfriends won’t date men that aren’t Black. I have maybe about five and these are people that I’m really considering my friends, not people that are associates or that you talk to or deal with at work. I have about five Black friends who date outside of their race. But all the other friends of mine, it’s either they vocally say that they won’t or every time an opportunity comes up for them to date outside of their race, there’s some excuse why it’s not going to work. They never really say it’s because he’s White, or because he’s Spanish or something like that. It’ll be more like, Well, you know he works at such and such, and our schedules don’t match.’ But we’ll know really what it is. It’s ’cause he’s White. It’s more common here on the West Coast. I think in New York, you find more Black women that date outside of their race. But in L.A. not as many. More after the jump...

DUH! It's about time these black celebrities start speaking up and out. Now if we could get Gerard Butler to stop playing with my emotions...

  3. As far as I know, Ms. Regina is in a 'blissfully happy' relationship with Malcolm Jamal-Warner --- unless something has changed. That's why I find it curious that she's coming out so strong on this issue. Maybe Ms. Regina is countering what Sister Jill Scott wrote in Essence magazine last month. Certainly, we can date whomever we want. But, there are many Sisters who are ready, willing, and able to wait for a good Black man. Hey, no one knows a Black woman better than a Black man. Many Sisters want to marry a Black man, raise a Black family, and continue the legacy. With that being said, if a man from another race came my way, and we were a great Team --- I'm in! However, let's keep in mind that there are many non-Black mothers who DO NOT want their sons with Black women, right?

  5. I was going to say the same thing Selena. What is the point?

There was a guy on the vibe site where the story is orignial from saying he'll no longer support her due this comment. I just laughed too myself thinking how many black men has he stopped supporting when they blatantly have other women of races to save, marry, or play a lead in their music video/movies? How many black men has he boycotted against who speak ill of black women on the internet or through music and have the nerve to compare bw to other races of women? How many other people has he boycotted against and joined the parade of bashing bw publicly such as Don Imus or John Mayer? Probably none.

But the minute a black woman such as Regina King who has been the business from when, is making a suggestion in the dating and marriage lives of bw, he's ready to boycott? hahahaha.

I wonder if he was first in line to see the latest movie co-starring Regina King in a IR film called "Our Family Wedding" starring America Ferra and Lance Goss. Or did he boycott the movie because it showed a lack of "black love". (smh) the hyprocrisy.

Regina King ain't worried about him or what insecure bm think. Regina ain't the one.

If they think what she said was bad, wait till they get a load of Alicia Key's new music video. By the end of the year they'll be wondering who's on their side becuz they sure know how to burn bridges.

Yes the answer is none because he's too busy worrying about black women that he doesn't even know!

Not that I care what people think but isn't it remarkable how most Americans default all AA women's love interest to AA men? I don't give two cents about "black love" (whatever that it) and I don't fault those who do.

Love has no preset value or automatic setting. Love isn't predetermined by you, me or anyone else.

    Love just is!

Too many bw on TV and in magazine articles coming on with the "nuthin but a brotha" message. Evia and some others have talked about that over the last several months. A lot of non-bm know they don't speak for all bw, but there are still a lot that don't.

I get the impression that ww get this more than wm.

  8. Hey Arthur *internet wave*

I agree. I wish there was a delete button to stop people from trying to speak for everyone!
