On To The Next One!

Weeks ago Gabriel dropped his petition for child custody and spousal support. I guess that's a hugh sigh of relief since ex-husband's Eric Benet and David Justice both had their grubby little hands in her pockets. Over the weekend she was spotted having dinner with sexy boyfriend Olivier Martinez. I sometimes wish these celebrities would take a breather and just be by themselves sometimes.  Team Berry!

Swirling In Hollywood International Style

When it somes to big name directors in Hollywood, Phillip Noyce certainly fits the bill.  With hits like Clear and Present Danger, The Bone Collector, Patriot games and Salt, Phillip has proven that he's as talented as he is versatile.  Here he is with South African wife Vuyo Dyasi and son Luvuyo at the Grauman's Chinese theatre in Hollywood.

What I really appreciate about Phillip is that he's often photographed with his wife at high profile events.  A lot of times, you don't know these hi-profiled celebrities and industry people are married to African/African American Women.  The MSM does little to no coverage which is quite sad.

To find out how the two of them met and see candid shots of their beautiful family stop by Ezinemark.

Schlessinger was referring to a call she got on her show Tuesday from an African-American woman who said she was married to a white man and was getting fed up with her husband allowing his family and friends to say things that she felt were racist.- CNN

Def Leppard's Guitarist Swirls it Up On Wedding Day!

Love Bites? Well, not for Def Leppard lead guitarist Phil Collen. The British rocker married costume designer Helen L. Simmons on the beach at Florida's Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach resort in a sunset ceremony Friday. "We've been looking for each other our entire lifetime," Collen tells PEOPLE. "To say we're ecstatic this day has finally come is putting it mildly. It could only be us for each other." People Magazine

A few reactions from some readers over at People Magazine (surprisingly most were positive):

From Mindy:
I've loved Def Leppard for over 25 years, but Phil is a skank. He is not blessed, he will not have a long and happy marriage. This is his third time, the last wife he cheated on and had two kids outside of the marriage. He makes it sound as though this is his first time finding the love of his life.

From Bev:
Congrats, Phil! I am a long time fan and wish you and your beautiful bride a very happy marriage!

From Pricilla:
Congratulations. Being married is wonderful when you get to enjoy a lifetime with the person you truly love.

From Deborah:
How long into the marriage is he going to cheat on her? He's a rich horny old man. He changes his girlfriends like people changes underwear. The people on here wishing him well must not know his track record very well.

From Facebook User (responding back to Deborah):
Gosh Deborah...you sound like one bitter old hag he
dumped back in the 80's...he must have really broken your heart for you to be so angry...get over it already...Wish them joy and happiness...and life will work out for them as it is meant too...Stop being so angry and bitter...your life will be better for it!

LOL folks are a mess!

Damn One Interracial Family Being Ridiculed Ain't Enough?

OK...so we had a white university coach get canned because he's married to a black woman.

Now we have a black woman get fired because she had a child out of wedlock. The justification is
simply mind blowing!

Me thinks it's because of the photo of her family to the left.

Jury, what say you?

Interracial Connection Attending Loving Day Celebration!

Back in 1958 interracial couple Mildred Jeter (black) and Richard Loving (white) decided to get married. Unfortunately, interracial marriages were illegal and they were arrested in their home state of Virginia so they decided to move to Washington DC to get married. However, the state of Virgina banned it's residents from getting married anywhere else. Talk about the long arm of the law!

One night, while the Lovings were asleep, they were awakened by the police in their bedroom. They were taken to jail for the crime of being married. A trial was later performed and The Lovings were found guilty. The Lovings were spared jail time if they agreed to leave Virginia for a period of twenty five years. Given the choice between jail and exhile, they hose the later of the two. Although the couple was legally married, they still faced years of discrimination and were not able to rent property in most parts of the city. Furthermore, their union was still illegal in the eyes of Virginia.

Eventually their case gained national exposure and made it all the way to the U.S Su
preme Court. Although the Lovings won their case, as recently as 1967 sixteen states from Delaware to Texas had laws banning interracial couples. This case ended a long era of laws that were enforced in forty-two states over the course of American history. These laws did not only apply to black people and white people; many states also restricted relationships with Asians, Native Americans, Indians, Hispanics, and other races.

To commemorate this joyous occasion every year on June 12th, m
any sponsored organizations hold parties across the country. Fellow blogger and good friend Jason of Interracial Connection, will be attending this year's event. For those of you attending the celebration, he's giving away great prizes and interviewing people for Interracial Connection's Loving Day Feature. For those of us unable to make it to this year, Jason will be providing great details and awesome photos upon his return!

White Man Recalls Threats When He Started Dating Black Woman

Raleigh Ceasar remembers the taunts and threats when he, a white man, began dating Carla, a black woman in Brooklyn in the early 1990s.

"People said things on the street. My family disapproved immensely, even though I grew up in an extremely diverse, international suburb of Washington, D.C. ," said Ceasar, 44, whose parents didn’t attend the wedding when he married Carla 15 years ago.

USA Today: More Marriages Mix Races Than Ever

Mary Brophy Marcus
USA Today

Marriages between spouses of different races and ethnicities are more common than ever before, say authors of a report by the Pew Research Center.

A record 15% — about one out of every seven — of new marriages in 2008 landed in the "Marrying Out" category, the report says.

Passel says white-Hispanic marriages were the most common interethnic unions, making up about four in 10 (41%) of the 280,000 total couples who had intermarried.

The single most surprising finding in the report, Passel says, is that 22% of newly wed black men married women who were not black. "If you look back at data from 50 years ago, such marriages were illegal in many parts of country," he says.

Is USA Today trying to steal shine from Hawaii? Passel's surprised at the statistics concerning black men marrying out? Has he been living under a rock these past decades? LOL

When Interracial Marriage Goes Wrong: What Really Happened to Gary?

This heffa woman sound grimy and guilty as hell. How you gonna be "so sick" you can't tend to your own husband? She act like Gary was some sort of homeless man she found on the skreet.

I see her "fever" didn't stop her from pulling the plug on him. I thought Judge Toler got rid of her azz like two years ago?

Let me tell you something, If Gary was my son, estranged or not, I'd grab Columbo, Angela Lansbury, Shug Knight
and The Equalizer, hop in the Mystery Van and beat the brakes off Pippi Longstocking.

Shannon on the accusations that she had something to do with Gary's death: "I've had a lot of people saying, 'Yeah, she pushed him.' This and that. People are so cruel they don't even know. I was upstairs. He was downstairs. How am I going to push him? That affected me more than anything. The scrutiny that people come up with. Why would I want to hurt my husband? Are you kidding?"

Shannon on her decision to take Gary off life support: "You know, the doctors told us that even if they would've done surgery on him he would've died. He would've bled to death during the surgery. And they said that even if they did take a chunk out of his brain he would not be the same. He would be basically like Muhammad Ali. He wouldn't be, you know, and I mean he would've died sooner or later anyway from that. Because the brain, you know, it's so traumatic. I don't want people to be so hard on me thinking that I had to pull the plug too early. He wouldn't have made it anyway. His heart would've just given out. And I don't want people to sit there and think that I'm a bitch and that I didn't care about him. But you know, be in my situation. I mean, look at what happened with Terry Schiavo. I always think of her case. Always when it comes to this. Gary was gone. His eyes were dilated, he was just gone."

Watch the train wreck interview here:

I bet the writers of Snapped are locked and loaded on this mess for the Fall Season as we gasp.

Did a Black College Discriminate Against Its First White Coach?

About.com: Race Relations
Nadra Kareem

May 31, 2010

In 2007, Savannah State University made history when it hired Robby Wells--the school's first white football coach. But after leading the Savannah State Tigers for two years, Wells resigned early this year. He now says that the Georgia-based historically black college gave him the choice of resigning voluntarily or being fired. According to a federal lawsuit filed by the former coach, school officials not only took issue with his race but with the fact that he's engaged to a black woman.

Hawaii Still Leads U.S. With Highest Rate of Mixed Marriages

Honolulu Advertiser
May 27, 2010

Nearly one-third of marriages in the Islands are between interracial couples — by far the largest percentage in the country and four times the national average, according to a new analysis of the latest census figures. That Hawai'i tops the nation in its percentage of mixed-race marriages probably comes as no surprise to residents: Hawai'i — known for its diverse population and melting pot attitude — has held the spot for decades. Meanwhile, nationally, the growth of interracial couples is slowing among U.S.-born Hispanics and Asians.

After Hawai'i, Alaska has the highest percentage of mixed-race marriages — 19 percent. Oklahoma, New Mexico and Nevada round out the top five, while West Virginia is at the bottom of the list, with 2.9 percent. More after the jump...

Jill Scott, What Were You Thinking?

You know the moment when you realize that fine, accomplished brother is with a White woman? Let’s call it “the wince.” My new friend is handsome, African-American, intelligent and seemingly wealthy. He is an athlete, loves his momma, and is happily married to a White woman. I admit when I saw his wedding ring, I privately hoped. But something in me just knew he didn’t marry a sister. I felt my spirit…wince. When our people were enslaved, “Massa” placed his Caucasian woman on a pedestal. She was spoiled, revered and angelic, while the Black slave woman was overworked, beaten, raped and farmed out like cattle to be mated. She was nothing and neither was our Black man. We reflect on this awful past and recall that if a Black man even looked at a White woman, he would have been lynched, beaten, jailed or shot to death. These harsh truths lead to what we really feel when we see a seemingly together brother with a Caucasian woman and their children. While we exert efforts to raise our sons and daughters to appreciate themselves and respect others, most of us end up doing this important work alone, with no fathers or like representatives, limited financial support and, on top of everything else, an empty bed- Jill Scott

See...this ish right here. This is one of the main reasons why I don't read, borrow, steal (or buy for that matter) a MESSence magazine. I just have one question:

Jill what were you THINKING?
*Clutching my pearls*
Before I go on, let me throw out this disclaimer:

Although Jill Scott, may share the melanin and ancestry background of most African-American women, she by NO means speaks for me or many others. We DO NOT care who black men date, mate, sex-out, trick-out, use and abuse. We do not flinch, wince, mince, itch or scratch our butts when Tyrone, Dante, or Dequan is walking down the street with a non-black woman- DWB
End Scene

Fades to white...and...ACTION

*leans over and grabs Jill's ear* So tell me Sis, how much did MESSence pay you to do this lousy interview?

MESSence truly is reaching to pull those mighty dollars in. Just when you thought main stream media was gunning for black women, true to form, MESSence is happily bringing up the rear.

Jill, I have one more question for you. After several of your own failed relationships, what's your take on black women and interracial relationships? Um, did I say one more question? Pardon me, I meant two. More importantly, would you say your failed marriage was the result of not dating non-black men?

Per MESSence's usual Modus Operandi, here's another "let's uplift black men and kick our sisters to the curb" articles. Furthermore the interview was random and unnecessary.

This article also reeks of the "Man" is the real reason why our black men ain't got no "ack" right and laced with a touch of "nobody wants us colored gurls no mo". Jill honey, this is 2010 not 1810. Its high time that you and whoever else stop passing blame.

Just when I thought MESSence couldn't get any messier they surpass all expectations.

I'm out!

I would've never known that Roger and Chaz were married.  In the story that I posted earlier, she's not even mentioned by name let alone the relationship between the two.   Thanks again Anon!
